Museum Experiences

As Society of Irregulars see it, nature is not limited just to what is outdoors.

We also look to interact with things human-made which evoke the same wholeness that nature does. Of course, works of art fall into this category. The practice of looking at works of art can enhance your own ability to see into nature, and this will enhance your ability to create.

Museums are reservoirs of meaning, just as are parks and wild spaces. Society of Irregulars sees the many museums of the United States as potential locales for group experiences of inspirational growth. John Springer has a background in art history, specifically in the artists of the movements of Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He will be your guide in looking into specific works of art in search of hidden patterns and correlations that make a work whole and allow it to move.

This experience is for anyone interested in learning from art and nature, whether you are an artist, art lover or are entirely new to the world of art. Searching for meaning in the mysteries of nature is best simulated by starring long at works of art.

How it Looks

“Where most museum guides might ask audiences to "step back" in order to consider a painting, John asks the audience to "step in" to engage the painting on its own terms. You are made to reckon with the art as it exists "right now" as opposed to contextualizing the art to some obscure time "back then." ” - Jordan Hall, Museum participant 2024
